    On Board New York Tours
    110 W. 40th St. No. 1503, New York, NY 10018. Phone: 212-852-4821.

Our journey begins in earnest on the Palisades Parkway, skirting the 550-foot-high Palisades along the Hudson River. Travel through luxuriant foliage suddenly awash in yellows, oranges, and reds. Take a break at the Lookout Inn, the highest point along the Palisades. Since 1937, this refreshment stand has greeted visitors with spectacular views across Westchester County to Long Island Sound. Our trek continues past Bear Mountain, once site of the premier ski jump in the U.S. Then, we skirt past the Bear Mountain Bridge, the first bridge across the Hudson between New York and Albany. Just past the site of the Revolutionary War Battle of Fort Montgomery, we head into West Point. America’s oldest military academy was the training ground for Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, John Pershing, Omar Bradley, Douglas MacArthur, and Dwight Eisenhower. Take a break for a light meal in the scenic town of West Point, then we’ll head back to the city past miles of rolling hills blanketed by colorful maples, aspens, oaks, dogwoods, hickories and birches.

    Hudson Valley Nature Excursions

Welcome to Hudson Valley Nature Excursions. I offer nature awareness and education hikes for adults and teens, winter Bald Eagle viewing tours, a summer nature “camp” for teens, and a special nature program for home-schooled teens and pre-teens. Customized outings are also available. Click on the tabs above for more information about each type of outing.

Much recent research now validates what everyone who spends considerable time outdoors already knows: exposure to nature has both physical and emotional health benefits. In addition to improving one’s mood and level of happiness, time spent in nature has been shown to reduce stress, help reduce depression, help reduce the symptoms of ADHD, improve immune system response and to speed healing time. For links to articles and research studies on these and other health benefits of spending time in nature see “Research” within the “More” tab at the top of the page.

On my outings we will walk slowly, stop frequently to closely observe and learn about all that is around us, and occasionally spend an extended period of time in one location doing specific activities to increase our awareness of the diversity of organisms that are found in the Hudson Valley and their interconnectedness within the larger ecosystem. My goal is to encourage your interest and curiosity in, and appreciation of, the natural world. I have found that learning about the natural world helps people to have a context with which to view their own place within it and also to have a connectedness

Because the goal of all my outings is to foster an awareness and appreciation of the beauty, diversity, and complexity of nature and to help participants derive the mental and physical health benefits that result from being closer to nature, the group size of my trips is limited to seven participants (with the exception of some Bald Eagle viewing tours and custom hikes). Also, with that goal in mind, while the lengths of my trips are usually 5 or 6 hours we rarely cover more than 3 to 5 miles round trip.

We are a group of ACA certified instructors who call the western Long Island Sound and the southern Hudson River home. Eager to get on the water for just about any reason, we are passionate about paddling and teaching. There are few things we find more rewarding than working with our clients, seeing the Ah-Ha moments take hold, and watching them utilize their new found skill set. We are experienced at teaching those who haven’t spent very much time in kayaks and for those who have, we’re always excited to help them tackle some of the more advanced paddling maneuvers.
