Cedar Creek Canoe and Kayak Rentals
1052 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville, NJ 08721. Phone: (732) 269-1413.

From its headwaters in Greenwood Forest Management Area to its mouth at Barnegat Bay, Cedar Creek provides the water required for cranberry culture and supplies a pure source of water for wildlife. The creek is an excellent stream for canoeing and kayaking. Adjacent bogs and uplands provide examples of plants characteristic to the Pine Barrens. As with most Pine Barrens streams, the water of Cedar Creek is “tea colored” because of tannic acid from the roots of the cedars lining the river banks.  Almost 89% of the Cedar Creek drainage area is forested land.  Habitats of this waterway, typical to the Pine Barrens, include Atlantic white cedar swamps, bogs (including cranberry bogs), pine and oak forests, and coastal salt marshes.  Unique plant species such as the pitcher plant can be found in this beautiful subwatershed.

    Barnegat Bay Kayak and Sail
    70 Rosehill Rd., Barnegat, NJ 08005. Phone: (609) 698-1748.

Barnegat Bay Kayak and Sail is located along Double Creek, a tributary flowing into the west side of Barnegat Bay adjacent to a national wildlife refuge. The refuge offers protected waters and ideal flat water paddling conditions through salt marsh channels and ponds. The open waters of Barnegat Bay are just a short paddle from our launching area. Although the bay is tidal, the mean range of the tide on the western side of the bay is about 0.5 feet. This small tidal difference develops only weak tidal currents, thus making paddling easy no matter the course. The bay, with a mean depth of about 5 feet warms quickly despite the ocean temperature, and unlike the Chesapeake and Rehobeth Bays, there are no stinging sea nettles in our waters.
