    We are a group of ACA certified instructors who call the western Long Island Sound and the southern Hudson River home. Eager to get on the water for just about any reason, we are passionate about paddling and teaching. There are few things we find more rewarding than working with our clients, seeing the Ah-Ha moments take hold, and watching them utilize their new found skill set. We are experienced at teaching those who haven’t spent very much time in kayaks and for those who have, we’re always excited to help them tackle some of the more advanced paddling maneuvers.

    Welcome to Sound Kayakers, a club for sea kayakers from Connecticut and New York who paddle in Long Island Sound. We are an American Canoe Association (ACA) Paddle America Club, which gives our ACA members liability coverage for club events. Sound Kayakers organizes meetings & trips, rescue clinics, guest instruction with nationally recognized trainers, camping trips, and other events to develop the kayaking skills and seamanship of club members. We operate under the Common Adventure Model, with consensus/team decision-making on club trips.

    We sponsor day and weekend trips on lakes, flatwater rivers and coastal areas of Connecticut.
    We are instituting a sea kayak program with an emphasis on safety and paddling skills. All participants will be required to demonstrate basic safety skills before participating on club trips. Our leaders have participated in safety skills and leadership training.

    Collinsville Canoe & Kayak is a family owned business that’s been in the same location in Collinsville since 1990. Our building is the former Miner Lumber Company.     Paddle a ten mile section of the beautiful Housatonic River in Northwestern Connecticut. This section is a mixture of moving flatwater and easy whitewater and is suitable for novice paddlers. The famous Covered Bridge in West Cornwall marks the halfway point and lunch is available at several places there. You may also bring a picnic lunch (no glass bottles please!), and stop at one of the many scenic spots along the river.West Cornwall shop sells canoes, kayaks and gear, plus they rent canoes, kayaks, and rafts on the Housatonic River.
