    Lake Taghkanic State Park, nestled next to Lake Taghkanic in the rolling hills and lush forests of Columbia County, offers a wonderful variety of recreational activities. The park has tent and trailer campsites and cabin and cottage camping facilities, two beaches, picnic grounds and a boat launch. In addition, the park has hiking, biking, cross-country ski and snowmobile trails. Ice skating and ice fishing are permitted when conditions are appropriate. There are three vacation rental cottages that have the amenities of home. The units are outfitted with a bathroom with toilet and shower, a kitchen with hot and cold running water, refrigerator, stove, microwave, cooking and eating utensils, enclosed/screened-in back porch facing the water, a picnic table and fire ring.     Taconic State Park- Copake Falls Area

    The extensive campground at Copake Falls has sites to accommodate campers seeking a more rustic experience, as well as those seeking a more “home like” experience. There are 46 tent sites, 24 tent platforms, 36 trailer sites and three cabin areas for a total of 106 campsites and 16 cabins.     Wow!! Camping without a car? No camping gear? No problem! Welcome to Malouf’s Mountain Sunset Campground, a hike in, hike out, fully catered camping resort. We can supply you with almost everything needed to spend a relaxing weekend in the woods.  Whether coming from the south or north, enjoy a scenic train ride on the Metro North Hudson River Line. From the Beacon train station our shuttle will take you to the hike of your choice. Hikes range in duration from a half hour to five hours. While you hike in to the camp, enjoying the views, we transport your gear to the campground and place it at your site for your convenience.  Upon arrival, the first thing you’ll notice is the privacy of each site. You will find a stack of firewood and your fire pit for cooking. You will see your covered platform which is especially nice because you’re not stuck in your tent if it rains. There is also a cover over your fire pit. You can bring your tent or rent one of ours. Then, there is our chow box – it has everything you will need for your stay, from pots and pans to a pad of paper and a deck of cards.

    We also have primitive sites for the more adventurous camper. For these, you bring all your gear and forage for your fire wood.  In either case, wait until you see the bathhouse – hot showers on one side, flush toilets on the other, and in the middle, sinks for cleaning up and sinks for dishes.     Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park

    A serene wooded area with glimpses of the river provides an ideal location for camping. There are 46 tent sites and 10 cabins available for rental at the park. Recreational vehicles are also welcome; however, the park does not offer hook up facilities. River access is available for campers with boats at the Norrie Marina and at the Norrie Environmental Center. A variety of nature programs are offered on Saturdays during the summer months. Restroom facilities and showers are located within walking distance.  A marina consisting of slip space and a boat launch ramp is a popular area within the park. There are 145 slips, both fixed piers and floating docks, which are rented on a seasonal basis. Transient boaters are welcome if space allows. The marina also houses showers and a pump out station.     Taconic State Park- Rudd Pond Area

    Rudd Pond has 15 tent sites and 26 tent platform sites, each providing campers with grand views of the ridge, pond, and nearby countryside. Each campsite has a picnic table and a camp fire ring and grill. Comfort stations and a hot water shower house are conveniently located in the campground. Campers or day visitors to the Rudd Pond area can participate in a wide variety of activities including swimming, picnicking, hiking, and biking. Families and individuals alike will enjoy boating on the scenic 64 acre pond. Motorized boating is not permitted, however, rowboats and canoes are available for rental from the park.     Wilcox Memorial Park

    Our 27-site family campground is open May through September.  Ten RV/trailer sites with water and electric hook-ups or a tent site, some with scenic overlooks of the beach!  This family friendly park boasts not one but two small lakes at it’s center. Relax as you fish from shore or from a rented boat. Look for the park’s resident heron, one of many interesting birds in the park, as you go by in a rented paddle boat. Or practice your putting on the miniature golf course (available in season.) Swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day on a sand beach with lifeguard facilities, a bathhouse and snack bar are located on the lower lake. May-Sept. 27 sites.  Tent, trailer, RVs.

    Long Island

    Battle Row Campground

    Comprising 44 acres of campground and dense woods, Battle Row is an ideal place to relax with family and friends. Battle Row has 64 campsites ranging in length from 40 to 45 feet as follows: 52 sites have water and electricity (31 sites with 30amp/125-volt electric hookups and 21 with 50 amp/125 volt); and 12 tent sites (must be 21 years of age or older to reserve). A comfort station is equipped with restrooms and private showers. The campground also offers swings; a recreational field; a softball field; a rally field for club group camping; and tent and overflow campsites (unimproved). Leisure Pass holders receive resident rate. This 296 acre barrier beach park offers lifeguard supervised Atlantic Ocean swimming, sun bathing on white sand beaches, and some of the finest saltwater bass fishing on the Island.     Blydenburgh County Park

    Richly forested hills and valleys at the headwaters of the Nissequogue River, rowing and fishing on lovely Stump Pond, casual strolls through an historic district featuring a grist mill. This 627 acre park is open year-round to Suffolk County residents and their guests.

    Cathedral Pines County Park

    This 320 acre site is situated along the headwaters of the Carmans River. Facilities include campsites for individuals, youth group camping and club camping (10 or more units) and family camping, including 10 sites with water and electric hookups.  Picnic sites and the George Broome Memorial Activity Building are also available.  Adjacent to Cathedral Pines Park is Prosser Pines Nature Preserve, which features a majestic stand of white pines planted in 1812.     Cedar Point County Park

    The 607 acre Cedar Point, with commanding views of Gardiner’s Bay, offers individual and organized group camping areas. Picnic areas, boat rentals, nature trails, vehicular access to the outer beach (with permit only), licensed hunting for waterfowl (in season), surfcasting for bass and bluefish.  The Cedar Point General Store and Snack Bar, operated by Kaelins, offers Saturday night family movies on the lawn behind the store and free use of recreational equipment.

    Cupsogue Beach County Park

    This 296 acre barrier beach park offers lifeguard-supervised swimming, sunbathing on white sand beaches and some of the finest saltwater bass fishing to be had on the Island. A food concession , restrooms, first aid center, showers and changing rooms are all conveniently situated at Cupsogue’s pavillion.  Campers and recreational vehicles are permitted along the access road running parallel to the outer beach. Diving is permitted at slack tide on the bay side of the park only. Water depth is approximately 12′.  *Recreational Vehicle Permit is required for outer beach access and camping.*

    Eastern Long Island Kampground

    Eugene Nickerson Beach & Campground

    Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, this 121-acre park offers the lure of beaches, swimming and numerous other athletic and family activities. In addition, Nickerson provides a campground with 74 sites for RVs and 13 for tents. Water, sewer and electrical hookup are available. Leisure Pass holders receive resident rate. One of the great beach treasures of western Long Island, Nickerson Beach Park (entrance fee required) covers 3,500 feet of ocean shoreline.     Hither Hills State Park

    Hither Hills State Park offers visitors scenic picnic areas and fireplaces, sport fishing, a sandy ocean beach, playing fields, a playground and a 168-site campground on the ocean. Anglers can fish year-round and obtain permits to fish at night. The unique “walking dunes” of Napeague Harbor are located on the eastern boundary of the park, which also has woodlands filled with Russian olive, oak, shad and pine trees.     Indian Island County Park

    This 275 acre Indian Island County Park, at the estuarine mouth of the Peconic River, is open to the public year-round for a variety of activities.  Camping is immensely popular at Indian Island, with trailer and tent campsites open to organized groups, individuals and camping clubs. Restrooms and shower facilities are available for the comfort of all campers. What was formerly the “island” at Indian Island County Park is now connected to the mainland by a causeway composed entirely of white sands. Remote, yet easily accessible to all, this “island”, complete with picnic tables, grills, comfortable benches and views of a glistening and peaceful Flanders Bay, offers one of the finest picnicking sites available in Suffolk County.     Meschutt Beach County Park

    Meschutt Beach County Park is a stillwater, supervised bathing beach located on Great Peconic Bay, on the east side of the Shinnecock Canal.  Limited camping for self-contained trailers and campers is available as well as showers, restrooms, and a food concession.  A windsurfing and sailing area is also available. Swimming, camping, playground, picnicking, food concession with dining area, restrooms, showers, & special events in season. Trailers.

    Sears Bellows County Park

    Nestled within the Long Island Pine Barrens, this 979 acre park offers a broad range of recreational opportunities to Suffolk County residents and tourists. Campsites for both tents and trailers are available. Rowboat rentals are offered on freshwater Bellows Pond. Sears Bellows’ extensive trail system attracts hikers and horseback riders from all points, east and west. Riders may use the park with a horseback riding permit. This park is closed to certain activities during waterfowl hunting season. Sears Bellows Park is a sportsman’s paradise. Freshwater fishing for bluegill, bass, perch and pickerel, with bait, is permitted between sunrise and sunset. New York State regulations apply to all sporting activities.  Tents and trailers.

    Smith Point County Park

    Smith Point, on the Fire Island barrier beach, is a haven for sportsmen, surfers and beach lovers. An extremely popular facility, the park’s white sands, rolling Atlantic surf and adjoining camping facility attract Suffolk County residents and tourists each summer season. Reservations are required for all the sites in the campground. All sites have water, and many have electric hookups and sewers.     Southaven County Park

    The Carmans River flows through this scenic, pine-oak forested park. Southaven is a popular picnicking site, containing group areas capable of accommodating up to 1,000 people. Southaven’s 1,356 acres also offer a bicycle hostel. Boating and freshwater fishing are permitted. Camping is also available, with sites for tents and trailers.     Theodore Roosevelt County Park

    Theodore Roosevelt County Park offers outer beach access and outer beach camping (with permit),  salt and freshwater fishing, and canoeing.     Watch Hill at Fire Island

    Watch Hill is located in the middle of Fire Island, across the Great South Bay from Patchogue, Long Island. Access by private boat or by seasonal ferry service from Patchogue, NY. Facilities and services include a nature trail, visitor center (staffed seasonally for interpretive programs) and ranger office, 195-slip marina, seasonally lifeguarded beach (mid-June – Labor Day), bathhouse.     Wildwood State Park comprises 600 acres of undeveloped hardwood forest terminating on the high bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. Swimmers can take advantage of the cool waters of the Sound, and picnickers can relax at shaded picnic tables as their children enjoy the nearby playground.     Clarence Fahnstock State Park

    Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts. This 14,086 acre park, covering land in Putnam and Dutchess counties, boasts hiking trails, a beautiful beach, picnic areas, scenic campground, and abundant opportunities for boating, hunting, fishing, and birding. The scenic campground, formed along the park’s natural rock ridges, provides alcoves of privacy and tranquility for campers. Each of the 80 campsites has a picnic table and fire ring. Additionally there is an area for RV camping. Although there are no hookups available or dump station, restroom and shower facilities are centrally located to all RV and tent sites. Individuals, as well as larger camping groups, are welcome. The campground’s nature center houses environmental displays and a variety of touch boxes.     Nestled at the foot of Slide Mountain, the tallest peak in the Catskills, and surrounded by Panther, Cornell, and Wittenberg Mountains is Woodland Valley Campground. The campground offers 72 tent and trailer sites, a picnic area with tables and grills, flush toilets, hot showers, a trailer dump station and a recycling center. Woodland Valley Campground serves as the trailhead for both Slide-Wittenberg Trail and Valley-Denning Trail. Area attractions include the Village of Phoenicia which offers tubing on the Esopus Creek (famous for its trout fishing), a railroad museum, train rides on the Catskill Mountain Railroad, fine shops, antiques and restaurants. Within a 30 minute drive is Belleayre Mountain with summer music and craft festivals. Show your valid camping permit and get free admission to the beautiful beach and day-use area at Pine Hill Lake adjacent to Belleayre Mountain.

    The campground is set along the wooded shores of the peaceful Walkill River in the heart of the beautiful Mid-Hudson River Valley.   Dumping station, hot showers, swimming pool, boat rentals, children’s play area, camp store, flush toilets and dry toilets, fireplaces, tables, fishing, recreation building and laundry room. Pets allowed. May through Columbus Day.  150 sites; 128 electric, 88 sewage hookups. Tents, trailers, RVs. Cabin rental.

    Westchester County

    Blue Mountain Reservation

    Blue Mountain Reservation is a 1,538-acre park in the northwest section of Westchester County. It was aquired in 1926. It features miles of trails for mountain biking, strolling and nature study, and offers challenging hikes to the tops of two large peaks, Mt. Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain. The Sportsman Center at Blue Mountain Reservation is a recreation facility offering target ranges.  The 12-mile Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway, an unpaved trail for hiking, is accessible from the Blue Mountain trail system. The park contains a bathhouse and trail lodge, as well as two historically significant comfort stations. These comfort stations were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and are reminiscent of early 20th century National Park structures. Has a camping lodge. No tents, trailers, RVs.

    Croton Point Park

    Croton Point Park is a 508-acre park situated on a peninsula on the east shore of the Hudson River. This park offers year-round events and activities and has facilities for camping, hiking and swimming.  The park, rich in natural and human history, is also the site of historic wine cellars that are thought of be the oldest in New York State and the Croton Point Nature Center, which offers a year-round schedule of interpretive programs.     Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park

    The 1,082-acre Mountain Lakes Park is Westchester’s northernmost county park. It is characterized by a rugged landscape and native hardwood forest with miles of trails. The park boasts five lakes and a spectacular overlook which makes for breathtaking hiking destinations. Mountain Lakes Park offers the total outdoor experience including camping, fishing, ice skating, hiking, nature exploration, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, picnicking, boating and a high/low ropes challenge course. Camping is available year-round in open-face lean-tos. Sleeping capacity is limited to eight people per shelter with the exception of two sites that can accommodate 16 people. Each shelter site has an outside grill for cooking, a designated fire ring for campfires and a picnic table. Also yurts which can accommodate 10 people, a cabin and a cottage available for rental.

    Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

    This 4,700-acre park is the largest in the Westchester County Parks system. Amenities include wooded areas, open spaces, miles of marked hiking and equestrian trails, pic­nic areas, fishing in the Cross River and cross-country skiing and sledding in winter. The on-site Trailside Nature Museum houses wildlife exhibits and offers weekly interpretive nature programs all year long. Camping facilities include open-faced lean-tos and tent sites.
